Take a look at this NASA map which was released recently to show the amount of biomass (a measure of the amount of organic carbon)—stored in trees across the U.S. The dark green areas have the "densest, tallest, and most robust forest growth." Isn't it interesting to see how little of the country is actually forested?
NASA reports, "Over six years, researchers assembled the national forest map from space-based radar, satellite sensors, computer models, and a massive amount of ground-based data. It is possibly the highest resolution and most detailed view of forest structure and carbon storage ever assembled for any country."

Wow, it's very interesting to see that most of the country is grayed out. You'd think that most of the country would have forest and trees. Strange. But I guess satellite images don't lie right?
